The difference between a CV and an application:

CV

A CV is certainly a good first impression for an employer, and an application is important to stand out. Yet the two are very different. The purpose of a CV is to look back in time, while a good application looks forward and focuses on the skills, experience and knowledge required for the job in question. As such, the two should complement each other.

A CV is longer and has a different purpose and layout. It should include details specific to the job you are applying for. A CV is a summary of your experience and education. It usually consists of one or two pages and should be tailored to a specific job.

Application

An application has more personality. An application will often contain a personal connection to the company and show the employer that the applicant is a good fit for the company. An application is much more persuasive than a CV. A CV can be too generic, so an application highlights your uniqueness and why you are the best person for the job. It will stand out from the rest of the applicants.

The application complements a CV. It is a short introduction to your work and interests and highlights how you are a perfect fit for the job. In contrast, a CV provides more detailed information to the employer and an application can help to convey these qualities.

As well as being complementary, an application should tell the reader what you have to offer the employer. A CV provides a lot of information to the employer, whereas an application is a concise, personal and professional document. The aim of an application is to sell the applicant. A well-written application can help you get the job you have been looking for.
